So many people give the opposite advice. To paint at a regular time every day. The only thing I can say that has been positive for me in following the advice to paint everday, regardless of how I feel, is that I use that time to experiment with different medias, and have no expectation, but that it will land in the garbage. Which it usually does, but it allows me the courage to try new things. Such as encaustics . I found I love working with melted waxes, although I have not been able to get all the effects I would like. Soon I will take a class! But the paintings that work.. I like to paint, but sometimes I do it when I am not inspired. I think doing that has made me enjoy painting less, because there is no clear vision for what I'm doing or why I'm doing it. There is certainly no need to paint when I'm not inspired because I only do it for fun, so I really appreciate that advice!
